Having a Repentant Heart

We are all born (in the flesh), with a sinful nature, stemming from the fall of Adam and Eve. When we are "born again" it means our hearts have changed. We turn away from our lives of sin and make a conscious decision to accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. We must not only turn away from our sin, but also repent of it. "Fear of the Lord is hatred of evil." (Proverbs 8:13)
Jesus said to the Pharisees, who caught a woman in adultery, "He who is without sin cast the first stone." (John 8:1-11) They, one by one, all walked away. He then turned to the woman and asked her, "Woman, where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you? She replied, "No one, Lord." Jesus then told her, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more."
Yes, He certainly does forgive us, but also expects us, to repent of our sins. It is so much more than simply saying The Sinner's Prayer. Without some feeling of remorse about your wrongdoing and a sincere desire to change, it's all just lip service.
If that's you, though its not right, you are not the first to go up to the altar at church because a well-meaning friend coaxed you into going up, before you were ready, to make a heartfelt commitment to Jesus. I hope you do, at some point in your life, though.
It's not always the easy way, but it's right way. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6 (KJV)
